The State of Qatar boasts more than it's a fair share of an amazing network of roadways all over the country. This Wednesday, the Doha Metro is set to open its doors to serve its nationals and residents.

The tiny state we call home, packed punch worldwide when it won the right to host the upcoming World Cup in 2022. Despite the ongoing blockade by its neighbors; beautiful stadiums, the network of fast lanes, stunning hotels and various shopping malls have been built in preparation for the expected influx of visitors.

With the incoming tourist in mind, transportation will be definitely breeze and the metro train will surely make its mark to be the most reliable transport system during the World Cup in 2022.

Our firstborn solo travel log in Europe

Three coats, 3 jackets, 3 turtlenecks, 3 pairs of shoes, 3 pairs of pants, 2 leggings, underwear, socks, a skirt, a dress, a pair of gloves and a scarf = 1 luggage, a sports bag, and a backpack. I KNOW I'm CRAZY, I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO TRAVEL LIGHT. Six planes and a lot of train/tram rides + numerous people who helped me along the way.

I always find it exhilarating to travel alone, it's liberating and life-changing. Trying to strike up a conversation with a stranger and doing new things feels so magical to me. I learn so much and get to know more about myself and my capabilities when I'm solo.

This morning I came back home from a 10-day trip to Europe. I started my sojourn in Munich, Germany and stayed for 2 days then took a flight to Oslo, Norway. Took a train to Bergen with my good friend the next morning and dragged her to places where BTS went to before for one of their variety shows 😅 Went back to Oslo the next day only to take another train to Gothenburg, Sweden that night where I got to go to an amusement park with a Christmas market inside.

 After touring around the morning I left by train again to Stockholm. I went to a few places during the day (BTS inspired again) and by evening I was on a flight to Amsterdam where I spent the last 2.5 days of my trip.

I did all this without data (didn't subscribe to my network's plan before leaving Doha) and just relied on free wifi. I had a dysfunctional charging port so I could only charge using a wireless charger which was very slow compared to plugging it directly. The best and worst part was I didn't have an itinerary and was basically winging it every day trying to avoid tourist traps but still going to recommend places by Google lol.

While eating lunch this afternoon and telling my dad snippets of my journey he was saying "ang Lakas Talaga ng loob mo" which can mean "you really have guts, you're so brave or to be courageous" in the context of traveling alone. I don't know if he was proud of me for being an independent woman but I felt that he was, so I just wanted to say that I am who I am today because of how they raised me.

 Our parents always let me and my siblings do what we wanted (as long as it's not too crazy ... I guess I shouldn't tell them how much I've spent in fangirling lol) and didn't hold us back. They taught us things but also, let us learn by ourselves through experience. I'm thankful that they are very supportive in everything we do (Papa even withdrew emergency travel money for me even if I have money saved up. I guess I'm supposed to pay back in a few months with 0 % interest? 😅) and hopefully in the near future I become an awesome parent like them.

Enough with the chatter, I will be posting lots of photos and editing videos soon so, please bear with me if I flood your feed as well.

MY AWESOME ADVENTURE AT PIIQ – AirCon Tech

I am privileged to be a part of the Philippine Integrated Institute Qatar 2018 class, the celebration of weeks of hard works, practical exercises and sharing of personal experiences while working abroad culminating in the graduation of more than a dozen participants from Air Conditioning Technician course and form part of more than 200+ overall graduates, each of which is ready to expand their expertise to become entrepreneurs back home.

Yes, for today, the 17^th of August 2018 marked another milestone.

Being an OFW for more than 3-decades working as Senior Electrical and Instrumentation Designer at Qatar Petroleum I still spent many hours honing my skills by attending forums, reading books, viewing the instructional manual, etc. so that I can share my experiences and skills to the Filipino community where I belong.

But perhaps there is no comparison to my awesome adventure in taking up the Air-conditioning Technician course at PIIQ.

In here, I can able to apply the design theory that I always wanted to do and with the watchful eye of our instructor Mr.Rufino Manago and to my more experienced practitioners in the field, we can able to perform and solve various technical issues.

The practical part of using various types of equipment the like of on-hand multi-meter readings on the compressor windings, fan motors wiring, capacitor testing to name a few gives participants the chance to find-out the required pole (Start, Run, Common) of the compressor, thanks to one of our classmates who brings with him his FLUKE precision multi-meter for our use.

On the other hand, the use of tube flaring tools and techniques of how to seamlessly join or weld two pieces of tubing as demonstrated by our instructor and practical use by everyone is less expensive than using various tube fittings (Hoke-Gyrolok) give participants more options and confidence when doing the tubing part of the air-conditioning system.

The outdoor and indoor installations along with the evacuation process using specialized vacuum equipment to store the refrigerant into the compressor and charging back the refrigerant into the system, leak testing, PACU testing, system cleaning, and maintenance has been simulated to make sure that all the procedures and processes have been taken care of.

This group of remarkably talented individuals has been academically prepared by sketching our own electrical wiring diagrams on paper and turns the system into reality by wiring the air-conditioning unit individually.

In here, we have alternatively been tested for strength and heart to be able to wire-up and do the tubing into the system without glancing our own wiring diagrams and sketch, which by the way collected by our instructor beforehand. Some of us will have to do it twice or thrice until we can able to master the circuitry.

To be able to survive the written and practical test gives us more confidence to fully understand the whole system. More problems being solved during the processes can be used as our guide to further our new-found knowledge.

Crazy Home Owner’s Life Hacks That Will Make Your Life Easier – bathroom cleaning

Finding an easier way to take care of the everyday cleaning the task is a common problem encountered by our cleaning staff (or ourselves) to keep our units in perfect condition. Even though there are specific gadgets or types of equipment that makes such tasks easier, a portion of our income will add up to our operational expenses if we purchase new things.

Don’t you worry! We can do household chores much easier and enjoyable by re-using old and readily available materials and tools direct from our very own stock rooms.

The life hack that you are going to learn from the images featured below is simple tricks that can help make life much easier for you and me. 

Welcome to Ela-G's first collection of life hacks that are being used in our very own home and in on our rental units.

Material and tools:

1. Toilet brush: Select a toilet brush that is made of sturdy plastic brittles. 

2. Electrically driven drill

3. Knife/ Hacksaw

Step-by-step procedure:

1. Choose an old plastic toilet brush or one that is about to be discarded

2. Using a drill chuck adaptor, mark the stem from the brush base.

3. Cut the brush stem with a hacksaw or whatever is available and form the toilet brush stem to suit into the drill hole.

4. Get your hand drill tool and adapt the formed brush stem into the drill hole. Tighten by using the chuck key as shown on the next image.

5. Your DIY cleaning tool is now ready.

Before we proceed to clean the toilet, we have to understand and practice safety precautions and equip ourselves with safety gear when working with electricity especially on a wet surface or workplace.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Extension cord: An extension cord or power extender is a length of flexible electrical power cable with a plug on one end and one "weatherproof adaptor socket" for the drill cord. Never use a multi-socket adaptor for this purpose.

Oil, water and electrical resistant working gloves and electrical resistant shoes: When working on wet environments, always use electrical insulating gloves and shoes that keep you away from electrical pulse or surges.

Now that all safety gears are donned and safety precautions have been reviewed, unclutter and pre-wash the working area with a mixture of water, detergent and other stuff that you might think of.

Plug the extension cord into the nearest safety outlet. On the other end of the electrical cord, plug the drill cord into the weatherproof adapter. Test the drill switch and make sure the brush stem is fully secured into the drill.

After pre-equipment testing, continue to use the drill to scrape away stubborn dirt or watermarks and dirty grout on the tiles and shower basin. Hold the drill in a vertical position to clean tile grout and corners. You can also position horizontally if desired.

After removing all the stubborn debris, blast them with water and dry clean the area. In order to have a more shiny floor, spray the area with vinegar or any product with the same purpose in order to eliminate mold as well.

Here is our sink squeaky clean after an hour of hard work.

With all the hard work I put in, all I could get from my wife was her insisting me to upgrade my insurance policy. Why, what did I do? Help me out.

Ela-G guest house Laguna: Perimeter wall and kitchen extension (part 1)

THE CONSTRUCTION SUMMARY

ElabizProperties through Ela-G brand name, the subject project is located at West Wing Residences Eton City (WWREC) in Sta. Rosa Laguna.

Phase 1 includes the construction of the perimeter wall and a kitchen extension on a 150 sq. meters property.

Groundworks

Building materials utilize concrete slab on grade and walls, metal roof truss structures to become adaptable to a roof mount solar set-up later. Windows are specified to be dual glazed vinyl with glass. The roof is to be composite shingle or equal with high wind exposure installations.

Plans submitted to the developer indicate the property, which consist of the existing house; perimeter walls, the kitchen extension perspective and plans into an aggregate total area of 150 square meters will be developed by phase 1.

The site is relatively half-circle in shape on a corner lot; and the property is facing two roadways that give resident un-restricted views of the horizon.

Site development includes but not limited to earthworks and excavations, fine grading along the existing curb and walkway, paving and stripping, landscaping and perimeter fencing. On-grade parking will be developed as extension verandah and below will become the permanent parking slot for 2-cars and form part of phase 2 contract.

During an on-site video call with our construction contractor engineer along with my wife Evelyn, it is decided that the frontage area of the house, wall post, and divider wall and the washing area will be provided with decorative tiles for ease of maintenance and added beauty. I was then skeptical for a while because seepage of rainwater will be restricted and might be a concern but later agreed to their suggestions.

The community is part of a residential project developed by Eton Properties. Adjoins the site including the almost finish recreational facilities and the multi-purpose clubhouse and a football field is being planned on the Southwest part of the clubhouse. At the far end of the community and within reach by the resident, a well known institutional academe breaks ground lately.

Status – appears adequate and within industry standards

THE LONG ROAD TO BAGUIO

Winding paths, traffic and the unavoidable rush of people, that is what our clients had to endure during their travel from Batangas to Baguio. They were able to pull it off and arrive at Ela-G guest condo Baguio safely.

We were monitoring their whereabouts during the day along with another client at Ela-G guest house Baguio and found out that the traffic was really bad.  I have to admit I crossed my fingers quite a few times for the traffic to improve. Luckily circumstances improved and I told myself to breathe a sigh of relief because the booking would not be canceled.

I can remember my family was in the same situation a few years back when we were also traveling to Baguio during the Lenten season. We were caught in traffic for a few hours. Passenger buses could be seen overtaking and sometimes using the opposite lane to avoid the congestion which only made matters worse. Drivers who don’t think about the safety of their passengers give me goosebumps.
